Preparation
- Slice the onion to create the blooming effect, being careful not to cut through the base.
- Soak the onion in cold water for at least 30 minutes.
Batter and Frying
- In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, cajun seasoning, salt, and pepper.
- Dip the soaked onion in the buttermilk, then coat it in the flour mixture.
- Heat the oil in a deep fryer to 375°F (190°C).
- Carefully place the coated onion in the hot oil and fry until golden brown, about 3-5 minutes.
- Remove the onion and drain on paper towels.
Serving
- Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
