  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two round cake pans.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. Cream softened butter and sugar in another bowl until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in orange zest and juice followed by vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually combine dry ingredients into wet mixture until just mixed.
  5. Divide batter into two bowls; keep one plain orange-flavored and add cocoa powder to the other.
  6. Alternate spoonfuls of each batter in prepared pans and gently swirl with a knife.
  7. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool completely before frosting.
