  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 3 large eggs (room temperature)
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup chocolate frosting (store-bought or homemade)
  • Gummy worms (assorted colors)
  • Crushed chocolate cookies (for "dirt")
  • Plastic tombstones (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two round cake pans and dust with flour.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and sugar.
  3. In another bowl, beat together eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla until frothy. Gradually mix into dry ingredients until smooth.
  4. Divide batter between prepared pans. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  5. Cool cakes in pans for 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
  6. Frost one layer with chocolate frosting, stack the second layer on top, and frost the entire cake. Sprinkle crushed cookies on top and add gummy worms and tombstones for decoration.
