Stuffed cabbage rolls are a heartwarming dish that combines tender cabbage leaves with a savory filling of ground beef and rice, all simmered in rich tomato sauce. This recipe is perfect for family dinners or potlucks, transforming simple ingredients into a delightful meal that everyone will love.

  • 1 large head green cabbage
  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 cup uncooked long-grain rice
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 24 oz tomato sauce
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Blanch about 12 cabbage leaves for 2 minutes until tender but firm. Set aside.
  2. In a skillet, sauté diced onion in olive oil until translucent. Add minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.
  3. In a large bowl, combine sautéed onion with ground beef, uncooked rice, oregano, salt, and pepper.
  4. Take each cabbage leaf and place 2 tablespoons of filling at the base. Roll tightly from the bottom up after folding in the sides.
  5. Mix tomato sauce with extra oregano, salt, and pepper in a bowl. Spread half on the bottom of a baking dish.
  6. Place stuffed rolls seam-side down in the dish and pour remaining sauce over them. Cover with foil and bake at 350°F for about 60 minutes.
  7. Let cool slightly before serving; drizzle with extra sauce if desired.
