Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 ½ tsp baking powder
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup unsalted butter (room temperature)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk (whole or dairy-free)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 8 oz cream cheese (softened)
  • ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line two round cake pans with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and sugar. Set aside.
  3. In another bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, then mix in milk and vanilla until combined.
  4. Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture until just combined.
  5. Divide batter between prepared pans and bake for 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool completely on wire racks.
  6. Once cooled, frost with cream cheese frosting and create the spiderweb design using piping bags filled with white frosting.
