  • 28 oz canned whole peeled tomatoes or crushed tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup dry red wine (or beef broth)
  • 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 tsp Italian seasoning

  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, heat olive oil. Add chopped onion and minced garlic; sauté until translucent (about 5 minutes).
  2. Increase heat to medium-high; add ground beef. Cook until browned, breaking it apart (approximately 8 minutes).
  3. Stir in canned tomatoes and red wine (or beef broth); crush whole tomatoes if using them. Simmer for about 10 minutes.
  4. Add Italian seasoning and sugar; stir well and simmer uncovered for an additional 20 minutes.
  5. Meanwhile, boil salted water in another pot and cook spaghetti until al dente (8-10 minutes). Drain pasta but reserve some water.
  6. Toss cooked spaghetti into the bolognese sauce in the skillet, adding reserved pasta water if necessary for desired consistency. Serve hot with grated Parmesan cheese.
