Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb Italian sausage (mild or spicy)
  • 2 cups chopped apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 1 cup chopped celery
  • 1 cup chopped onion (yellow or white)
  • 4 cups stale bread cubes (French or sourdough)
  • 1 cup low-sodium chicken broth
  • 2 tbsp fresh thyme
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a large baking dish.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, crumble and cook the Italian sausage until browned, about 8-10 minutes. Drain excess fat if needed.
  3. Add chopped onions and celery to the skillet, sautéing until softened, approximately 5 minutes. Stir in diced apples and cook for an additional couple of minutes.
  4. In a large bowl, combine the bread cubes, sautéed mixture, fresh herbs, salt, and pepper. Gradually pour in chicken broth until moistened but not soggy.
  5. Transfer the stuffing into the greased baking dish. Cover with foil and bake for about 30 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  6. Let cool slightly before serving alongside your favorite main dishes.
