Maki Sushi, or sushi rolls, is a delightful dish that combines creamy avocado, crunchy cucumber, and perfectly seasoned sushi rice wrapped in nori. Ingredients

  • 2 cups sushi rice
  • 3 sheets nori (seaweed)
  • 2 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 ripe avocado, sliced
  • 1 medium cucumber, julienned
  • Optional: 100g cooked shrimp or crab meat
  • For the sauce: 2 tbsp low-sodium soy sauce
  • Wasabi to taste

Instructions

  1. Rinse sushi rice under cold water until clear. Cook according to package instructions and mix in rice vinegar while cooling.
  2. Slice avocado and cucumber into thin strips. Prepare any optional proteins.
  3. Place a sheet of nori on a bamboo mat, shiny side down. Spread an even layer of sushi rice over the nori, leaving an inch at the top.
  4. Add avocado, cucumber, and protein in the center of the rice.
  5. Roll tightly from the bottom using the bamboo mat, wetting the nori edge to seal.
  6. Cut into bite-sized pieces with a wet knife and serve with soy sauce and wasabi.
