Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup warm water (110°F)
  • 2 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup granulated sugar for syrup
  • 1/2 cup water for syrup
  • 1/4 cup honey for syrup

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: In a mixing bowl, combine warm water and yeast. Let sit for 5 minutes until frothy. Add sugar, salt, and gradually mix in flour until a soft dough forms.
  2. Knead: Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth. Place in an oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise for about 1 hour.
  3. Form Balls: Punch down the dough and divide it into golf ball-sized portions; place on a floured surface.
  4. Fry: Heat oil to 350°F in a deep frying pan. Fry dough balls in batches until golden brown (about 3-4 minutes).
  5. Make Syrup: Combine sugar and water in a saucepan over medium heat; stir until dissolved. Add honey and simmer for 5 minutes.
  6. Soak: Transfer fried lokma into warm syrup for about 30 seconds before draining on paper towels.
