Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup whole milk, warmed
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 1/4 tsp instant yeast (1 packet)
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 tsp salt
  • Optional: colored eggs for decoration

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast by mixing warm milk with sugar and yeast in a small bowl; let sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk flour and salt together. Create a well in the center and add the yeast mixture along with softened butter.
  3. Incorporate eggs one at a time while stirring until combined. Knead on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size (about 1 hour).
  5. Punch down the risen dough and divide into three parts. Roll into ropes, braid them together, and form into a circle. Tuck in colored eggs if desired.
  6. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake on parchment-lined sheet for 30-35 minutes until golden brown.
