Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour (500g)
  • 1 packet active dry yeast (2 ¼ tsp or 7g)
  • ½ cup granulated sugar (100g)
  • 1 cup whole milk, warmed (240ml)
  • 3 large eggs, room temperature
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened (113g)
  • 1 tsp salt

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine warm milk and active dry yeast; let sit for about 5 minutes until foamy. Add sugar, eggs, softened butter, and salt.
  2. Gradually mix in the flour until combined. Knead by hand or with a stand mixer fitted with a dough hook until the dough is smooth and elastic.
  3. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size—about one hour.
  4. Roll out the risen dough on a floured surface to about half an inch thick. Use a donut cutter to shape your donuts.
  5. Heat oil in a deep saucepan to around 350°F (175°C). Fry the donuts until golden brown on both sides—about two minutes each side.
  6. Remove from oil and drain on paper towels; roll in granulated sugar while warm.
