  • ½ cup unsalted butter, chilled and diced
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). In a mixing bowl, combine flour and sugar. Mix in diced butter until crumbly.
  2. Add three tablespoons of cold water until dough forms. Press into a tart pan and poke holes with a fork.
  3. Bake crust for 15-20 minutes until lightly golden. Let cool.
  4. In a saucepan, heat milk, sugar, cardamom, and vanilla until warm. Whisk eggs separately until frothy.
  5. Gradually whisk warm milk into eggs to temper them. Return to saucepan and stir until slightly thickened.
  6. Pour custard into cooled crust and bake for another 25-30 minutes until set but jiggly in the center.
