  1. Wash and dry the apples thoroughly to remove any wax.
  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  3. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine sugar, water, and corn syrup. Stir until dissolved, then allow to boil without stirring until it reaches 300°F (hard crack stage).
  4. Remove from heat and add red food coloring if desired.
  5. Dip each apple into the hot syrup, turning to coat evenly. Allow excess syrup to drip off.
  6. Place on parchment paper and cool at room temperature for about an hour until hardened.
