  • 1 medium head green cabbage
  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 cup uncooked white rice
  • 2 (15 oz) cans crushed tomatoes
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a baking dish.
  2. Boil cabbage leaves in salted water for about three minutes until softened. Set aside.
  3. In a skillet, sauté onions until translucent. Add ground beef and garlic powder; cook until browned. Drain excess fat, then stir in rice and sugar.
  4. Layer half of the crushed tomatoes in the baking dish, followed by half of the cabbage leaves and half of the beef mixture. Repeat layers.
  5. Pour remaining tomatoes on top and cover with aluminum foil.
  6. Bake for about one hour until heated through and bubbling. Let cool slightly before serving.
